The event: 10k and 21k run sponsored by Spar supermarket and Powerade
The Time: Good Question. We were told to be there for 6am and the race would start at 7am. We started running at 7:45.
The participants: A lot of really fast runners including 3 Namibian Olympians.
The story: We ran along the main road in Oshakati. This road is so Main in fact that it can’t be blocked off from traffic. We ran accompanied by taxis, baakis and lorries racing next to us at very extreme speeds. I was photographed as one of the 5 white people running, by a camera phone. I was also offered recharge credit for my pre-paid cell phone, because as I was running I so apparently needed credit. The man in the wheel chair passed me, as well as most of the other 21k participants.
The end: We all had a good time. It was an accomplishment to run 10 kilometers in a row. I have no idea how fast we ran it because for some reason the race coordinators didn’t feel it prudent to release that information. After it was over we handed in our numbers, and jumped in a taxi for the ride home.
